Atlas therapy

The atlas is the first cervical vertebra und thus one of the centres of our integral health. At this height the spinal cord has a nucleus that registers the movements of the body and sends them into the brain. By the means of a defined impulse it comes to a generalised muscular relaxation. Even the muscles which supply the veins and the arteries relax. As a consequence, it comes to an improved circulation of the head, to a relaxation of the masticatory musculature and obviously to a relaxation of restricted veins which lead the blood from the head to the heart. The improved neurological results in the case of patients with multiple sclerosis can be attributed to it, considering that in the case of this disease the veins which lead the blood from the brain present restrictions, as has been observed in the past years by a radiologist.
The French doctor Albert Arlen (1925 – 1992) recognised the atlas as a focus with regard to many ailments and diseases, and developed this effective atlas therapy.
The atlas therapy proved itself in the case of a paining spinal column, dysfunctions of the locomotor system, types of vertigo, tinnitus, painful herpes zoster and whiplash injuries. But the atlas therapy is also a good help in the case of different neurological diseases, e.g. multiple sclerosis and myopathies.
One has to emphasize its influence on developmental disorders in the case of infants and small children. Tonus asymmetry (TAS) which is usually called “KISS”, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and cerebral spacticities respond well to the atlas therapy.
Scientific researches prove that the atlas therapy is a good addition for neurophysiological physiotherapy, and represents a progress in the treatment of children with spastic disorders.
