Artesunate

Artesunate

Artesunate is a semi-synthetic drug originally used to treat malaria caused by “Plasmodium falciparum”. The active ingredient artesunate, which is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the plant known as mugwort or wormwood, was included in the list of essential medicines by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2002. Artesunate is a home remedy that is very useful for tumours and cancer cells that do not respond to chemotherapy.

The crucial point here is that cancer cells have a much higher iron content than healthy cells. By adding artesunate, a biochemical reaction develops from the combination with iron, which produces oxygen radicals. These oxygen radicals cause the tumour cells to die.

Artesunate also inhibits the growth of cancerous tumours. Tumours need more nutrients for their cell division and artesunate hinders the formation of the necessary blood vessels.

Artesunat has few side effects and is also well tolerated by patients who are already weakened.
